Sunday, December 16, 2007Golden Compasswatched the movie yesterday, and having read the book, I must say it didn't really disappoint!!! The graphics were AWESOME, especially the fighting scene of the ice bears. That was done very well. It was amazing how they put all these elements together and made it look so real!!! The girl acting Lyra was perfect, Daniel Craig was rather hot, and Nicole Kidman was gorgeous-creepy. She pulls it off fantastically!!! Very beautiful cinematography. This was an incredibly star studded cast - apart from the two big names up there, there was Ian Mckellan doing Iorek, Freddie Highmore (charlie and the chocolate factory) as Pantalaimon...Eva Green Seraphina (she was gorgeous)...Christopher Lee as one of the Magisterium...fantastic!!! That's why I like british movies, they always have impeccable casting, and fantastic actors all the way down to the minor parts =) While watching the movie, I was, for the most part, sitting at the edge of my seat. Not because the movie was exciting in the front, but because I'd waited way to long for this. To finally see it was like coming home. *sighs happily* The graphics were so RIGHT it was very satisfying. I just wish it didn't end -that- way *sigh* read below for spoilers. General verdict: Decent movie, fantasy fans who've not read the book will enjoy it, minus the slightly slow pace, but otherwise if you wait through to the second half, it gets really exciting. Fans of the book will be happy as to how everything is perfect, but perhaps be pissed off with the ending haha. B. Now the gripes - SPOILER ALERT!!! I felt that the movie was a little slow moving, having read the book, but i guess it does a good job of explaining the world, so it's kinda necessary. It was very faithful to the books, up to the point where they made Billy Costa the kid whose daemon was called Ratter, and who got separated from his daemon. I didn't like that at all, especially since the kid was really likeable... The workers at Bolvanger were way to concious for my liking - they were supposed to be people who'd undergone the intercission, and hence they were supposed to look blank and unthinking. Coulter's monkey was waaaay too scrawny. I was expecting a more lush version of the golden Macaque (how do you spell that) but it turned out to be a rather skinny malnourished looking golden monkey ^^;;; It would've been great if it was as smooth as Nicole Kidman herself.. Was especially unhappy with how they ended the movie - to the book reader it was 'it's not supposed to end here!!!' To the newbie though, it was 'What? It ends like this???' I felt that they should've ended with Roger getting killed like he was supposed to, but I guess being that it was a movie, that would've been unforgiveable haha. Ah well, till the next movie then, I can't wait to see who's her love interest - he better be a cute guy =) I would be very happy if he was Peter in Narnia...hehehehe =) Ending this way really made Lord Asriel out to be nicer than he really is though, which was something I wasn't happy about - of course in the end both Mrs Coulter and Asriel end up being the good guys so I guess it really doesn't matter... hahaha. Ahhhhh, can someone who has read the books and seen the movie (i.e. pl) hurry up and post up a review?? Everyone here hasn't read the book - it pains me that i cannot discuss the ending T_T stardusted at 4:02 AM | link? 0 Call me number 1!© sephirot productions 2008 |
