Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Just finished the book. Took me..um...let's see....10-12 hours cos i was so eager to get to the end =) Ultimately, a very good book i think, it had a nice way of building up to the climax and a very satisfying ending (minus the epilogue which was soo fanservice =)) So I'm rather happy. Wasn't that much of a shock though, because after having read every single possible kind of HD fic available, not to mention totally on crack ones regarding draco being turned into a pink ipod (more on that later), nothing really surprises you anymore *lol* every possibility has been taken and tossed around and tackled so much. Nonetheless, 5 stars for a very enjoyable read that left me laughing and crying and swearing at rather awkward moments *sheepish grin* =) Perhaps one of Rowling's best endeavours =)

And now, the spoiler rant because i'm dying to do it...bursting really =) Stop reading here if you don't want to read that =) don't say i didn't warn you *lol*

---SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ----

*ahem* I know i said it was a good book, but there were nonetheless many parts that irritated me, ROwling being one of those people that never fail to irk you while at the same time entertaining you *lol* So here goes, my peeves if you will (dammit i sound like lupin/dumbledore O_o)

1. i think Rowling doesn't like slash fic, particularly those about her characters. She has single-mindedly married every able and available single (and somewhat major) character in her books. Just look at the epilogue. O_O Remus and Tonks, Ron and Hermione, Harry and Ginn, Draco and unknown witch O_o And they all have kids. Somewhat overkill, in trying to prove that her characters are undoubtedly straight i think O_o. But at least Harry and Draco are alive and mayhap they have secret rendezvous at godric's hollow or something =)

2. what was rowling thinking when she wrote that draco had a receding hairline O_O *despairs* that's almost.....forbidden!!!!! cruel!!! Argh O-o ew. Draco with a receding hairline. OMG. My (figurative) eyes!!! >.<

3. harry's kids are albus severus and james and lily?!!!!! Bill's daughter is victoire?!!!!! REMUS NAMED HIS SON TEDDY?!!!!!!!! (((O_O)))) oh the horror. And draco's kid is Scorpius!!! argh. You'd think Rowling could've come up with better names...O_O *in shock* oh the horror. But okay, i like the bit about Remus' son being a playboy, poor remus..he would've died of embarrassment =) Lucky kid though, he could lookwhatever he wants, being a metamorphagus (sp?) *lolol*

4. snape holding a torch for lily was somewhat...unexpected. And yet it fits rather nicely so i kinda like it. It's almost an 'AWWWWW' moment when you go into snape's memories, and somehow that feels vaguely voyeuristic hahaha.

5. rowling is evil because she shows that mirror having a wisp of smoke in book 5 and hence makes you think that sirius is back. and then she shows a flash of blue, which once again makes you think sirius is back but nooooo. No. she had to pull in dumbledore's brother *&^^&%$%^#%$@#%$#^%&!!!!! *sigh* i was sooo hoping...sigh. argh. >.<

6. wish rita skeeter will die a horrible painful death. O_o that woman/character irritates the hell out of me.

7. thought peter pettigrew dying by his master's and at the same time his own hand was a very very fitting gesture. And the little mercy bit was a very good touch.

8. lucius and narcissa malfoy being, ultimately, very protective parents was a rather interesting development, considering how up till then you'd only seen lucius treating his son like a tool. That coming from narcissa might have been expected but the same to come from him was interesting. Interesting that in the end not many of his death eaters truly shared voldemort's ways, and that out of three of his best sentinels, 2 of them were able to display a show of love which, as dumbledore said, was the one thing voldemort did not have and could not understand. And so I think i understand better now why when bellatrix died, voldemort's cry of pain and fury was greater than any other - the one witch who really truly followed him was gone.

9. there was a very strong sense/theme about perception and how it's not what it seems. And you realise that throughout all the books you've been carried by harry's viewpoint, and caught up with his personal biases. It was refreshing to read things from other POVs for a change, and I like how rowling wrote of harry's realization that not all is as it seems, and how that kinda takes the reader along about it. It was a rather nicely done characterization thing..though really, Harry has to be the most dimwitted hero in the wizarding world *mutter* hahahaha =)

10. george's ear jokes were hilarious. Slightly morbid, but hilarious *lol* fred dying made me cry though. That and harry's 'death' made my eyes water. It was rather nicely done =) hahahaha

and that was it =) not particularly intelligent, unfortunately very fangirly....but ah well..it's harry potter and i'm entitled to my fangirling= =) am rather sorry it's done but the ending was fitting and i don't feel like there are strings left untied. I'm looking forward to the encyclopedia she's writing though. I want to read about what everyone ends up doing =) wonder if harry became an auror? Maybe draco became a philanthropist.... =)
