The Goblet of Fire (spoilers!)

Watched the premiere of GoF today, and it was crazy O_o Imagine a cinema complex showing 8 screenings of the show at the same time, with long snaking queues in front of each cinema for people who want to get the best seats (it was free seating) O_o There were some seriously hardcore people here O-o haha

In any case, watched the show, and here's my review. Though i must say the entire experience was marred by a few things:

a) FRONT ROW SEATS. Urgh. People who know me well know how much I hate them. I was like -thisclose- to the screen and most times i saw blurry images due to the way the screen was shaped. It was concave and tended to distort the images so I got this colossal headache. And every time there was a motion shot everything blurred out, so by the time I could actually see something it was over O_o If not for the fact that I'd already paid a stinking NINE bucks for the movie, I would've rather not watched it at all. i hate flawed premieres. ARGH.

b) four bumbling idiots who kept walking in and out of the cinema in front of me. &*$*%$$%#$#%!!!!!! Because I was third row from the front, it wasn't elevated, so every time they stood up they blocked like HALF THE SCREEN. They also had the impecabble timing of standing up at Every. Good. Scene. ARGH.

c) no 401 gang to squeal with. This has to be the first HP premiere we have not watched together!!! Sigh. Miss you guys. Weren't many die hard fans in the sg community that went, so yeah, sucked minutely.. ^^;

d) pigs. obtuse ones.

Now the review proper:

acting/actors

Good!!!! As always, the acting is rather flawless. My only gripe is how Voldemort could, really, look much scarier. Otherwise I'm pretty okay with his performance, since in the end, Voldemort is really only a madman with extraordinary powers. His humanity didn't really bother me, just that after the hype I'd had thought he would be terrifying *lol* Oh and was it me or was Dumbledore actually spritely?!! I wasn't very happy with that change, since in previous shows, it was his slower pace that tended to give his character more weight. Now he's just another old man with a wizard hat. I just feel that there are many ways one can demonstrate dumbledore's young heart without making him younger physically.

Hermione - GORGEOUS.
Harry - Niiiiiice. Espcially the bath scene. *LOLOL*
Draco - FINALLY. I wait four friggin' years and the boy FINALLY looks like what I thought he would look like. Nice. Totally. *nods* And YES! Lucius makes a comeback!!! My favourite pretty villain *lol* Father and son look so pretty together *grin*
Cedric - Gorgeous. Really. *emphatic nod* Only whyyyy did he have to die. *sigh* so cruel, JK Rowling. And so cruel, Mike Newell, for making the cutest guy the one who had to die T_T
Fred and George - Actually growing up pretty nicely! haha. My favourite pair of twins. ^^

script/editing

not as good. ^^;; Perhaps it was the length of the book and hence the sheer amount of information they had to squeeze into 2.5 hours. There were many many things missing. And the worst part was that it was rather badly edited. Things will be introduced for 2 seconds and then whisked away, never to be seen again. I didn't see Rita Skeeta turn into a beetle (she lasted for a full 3 minutes O_o) They wasted lotsa time on little things that could've been left out to put in the more important bits in the book. But otherwise, I guess a fair interpretation. Just not very happy with how time was wasted on all the wrong things. O-o Thumbs up for the jokes though. Especially the one where Cedric suggested that Harry should take a nice long bath with his egg in the prefect's bathroom. *snicker* I think cedric/harry fans would be very happy with this one. *lol* I wonder if this would spark off a spate of C/H fanfiction?

CG/Graphics

Decent. But not enough to bring the audience into another world, which I think is the most important element in harry potter movies. Chris Columbus and Alfonso both did that beautifully, whereas Newell chose to neglect this aspect. In many scenes, you could see where the CG ends and the set begins. The Great Hall, the Triwizard Tournament, Quidditch World Cup, Gryffindor common room, the Maze etc etc etc all looked small and kiddish and fake. Which was disappointing since after the first three shows, I was expecting a lot more in special FX for this one. Given the book's content, there was alot of potential! Pity. All there was in the maze was leaves, fog, and wind. It wasn't even remotely scary, both psychologically or otherwise.

fav scenes

the entrance of the Dumstrag and Beauxbaton contigents on the viking ship and pegasus-flown carriage respectively. Rather nicely done! I thought the actual entrance of the students in the halls was fine, but the display after that with the simpering and acrobatics was a little overdone O-o And this scene in the trailer was much more impressive than in the movie. Which was slightly disappointing. They should've gotten the trailer editor to cut scenes for the movie. *lol*

draco the ferret. *snicker* ooooh so FUNNY!!!! wahahahahaa. Best bit ever. And he looked good with messy hair too. Impressive. There were H/D bits around I guess, if you look really hard and make things up ^^;;; *lol* Perhaps I'd read too much fanfiction ^^;;;; I was half hoping harry would've to save draco in the second underwater task *lol* all thanks to THIS STORY. Well written piece of work. Read it.

harry in the bath, trying frantically to gather foam and bubbles between himself and one moaning myrtle intent on ravaging his virginity. *ROTFL* Damn funny.

final verdict

okay movie i guess. Nice to watch, just lacking the magic and some relevant scenes. TOO FEW DRACO SCENES dammit. But yeah. So a 7/10 for the movie. If he'd added some H/D i would've given him a ten *lol* As it is all I caught were glimpses. Tch.

And that was it. *lol* *yawn* to bed and narnia!
