Sunday, October 16, 2005movies!!! movies!!!!!finally. fall break is here *big grin* though it's really quite lonely since all my roomies are gone. and everyone here seems to be off with other people doing other things... woke up at one today, feeling very refreshed. and then got it all spoiled by an obtuse bugger that went to watch movies without me. calling when they were halfway there indeed! sheesh. but no sweat, called up a girlfriend (thanks tiff ^^) and then had a whale of a time *grin* walked in and out of a few shows: 1) elizabethtown saw the ending bits. I don't care what the critics say - the script is gorgeous (my goodness the quotes were beautiful) and orlando bloom was dashing. absolutely dashing. minus the american accent *mutter* very icky. i rather much prefer his british accent. many issues were addressed in the movie. I guess the reason why it's got such bad reviews is cos it's really similar in style and plot to japanese dramas. which explains the beautiful cinematography and lyrical lines. Certainly addressed issues close to heart. wonderful stuff. Might just go back again to see the beginning. *lol* good soundtrack too! 2) proof O_o gwyneth paltrow and jake glyllenhal. Perhaps it was just us. or our impeccable timing walking into the movie at one of the worst possible times. the leads were exchanging mathematical proofs in an attempt for small talk. O_o Love stories peppered with prime numbers. O_o gross. 3) flight plan jodie foster. something about planes and kidnappings. rather exciting towards the end. also really liked sean bean. never knew he could look so good in a captain's suit *lol* nice accent too... XD 4) corpse bride the focal point of this post, and the only movie whereby we watched the ENTIRE thing. XD Gorgeous music, gorgeous plot (albeit simple but who really cares??) and gorgeous artwork. gorgeous voiceovers too!! was amused by christopher lee being cast as the scary priest. *lol* i liked the gothic quality of his voice. Johnny depp was all nerves and awkwardness, it's amazing how he manages to portray that in his voice. Am totally surprised by emily watson's stint as victoria. she sounds grown up. Am still trying to convince myself it's her. *lol* The piano solos and duets were gorgeous. I still like Danny Elfman best when he goes into the gothic and melancholic. All in all, lovely. Now if only he'd do another one....I'm a sucker for Burton's goth art and animation. Also saw a few trailers: a) harry potter trailer finally caught the extended trailer. GOOD STUFF. Looks very very good. Just cannot wait for it to come out. Only, really, Daniel Radcliffe should CUT HIS HAIR. Urgh. He looks disgusting. Love the beauxbatons uniform. Also like Cedric Diggory. All golden boy charm. Nice. ^^ Rita Skeet looks like you'd want to slap her. Which is good. ^^ Cho Chang looks...normal....but ah well. i never really liked her anyway, both in the book and otherwise *lol* come out quick quick quick ^^ b) narnia AAAAH. The movie i've been waiting for all my life. Aslan looks magnificent. The children look perfect. The ice queen is perfect. tumnus is perfect. *goes into delighted squee-ing* you can't even imagine how much i want to watch this. Even more than i wanted to watch lord of the rings. I've been reading the books every year since i bought them in pri sch and i still love it. *lol* Unicorns and talking animals and Aslan!!! just pleaseohpleaseohplease come out now...*sigh* c) king kong is it me or does this look suspiciously like two towers in terms of cinematography? somethign about the colour and tone. Very very very familiar. *lol* jackson's signature is easy to spot when you've been practically living and breathing the trilogy for three years. *lol* but interesting, definitely. i'd like to see how adrian brody comes out. never imagined he'd be acting in this kind of action movie. but i trust jackson. d) pride and prejudice oooh. pride and prejudice. the trailer looks good. and considering it's by the director of love actually, i imagine it'd be a really nice feel good movie indeed. Though kiera knightly does seem a bit young for the role, and (i have to agree with alex on this) colin firth will always be Mr Darcy for me. *lol* the BBC 4 ep. adaptation is still my favourite. but it looks promising nonetheless. XD e) nanny mcphee was totally surprised by this. it looks like a cross between sound of music, lemony snickett and some fairytales. very weird and yet very cute. recognised emma thompson immediately cos she looked so much like Trelawny *lol* Colin Firth is, as usual, easily agitated and stiff. ^^ And the cute little boy simon from love actually is acting!!! ^^ haha. worth watchign i think, if anything to just amuse yourself ^^ f) brokeback mountain *koff*gheimovie*koff* by ang lee no less *lol* and featuring heath ledger and jake glyllenhal. *lol* two cowboys in denial. *lol* it couldn't be more predictable. But ooh i wanna watch it. for heath ledger if anything. and to see how ang lee handles a movie of this delicate subject matter. g) memoirs of a geisha ahem. long awaited yes. I would say the cinematography is great. The casting is decent. but why are they talking like chinese trying to mimic americans?? spoils the show for me TOTALLY. At least Ken Watanabe manages the accent well. Zhang Ziyi totally spoils it. weirded out. but nice graphics... she's too pretty though. geishas in training aren't supposed to look so natural. they're supposed to have tons of white foundation and scary wigs... h) casanova ooh. heath ledger again. as casanova *grin* jeremy irons is some lord (very nice) and i think there's sierra miller as the love interest. very strong line up of british actors and nice swashbuckling action. at least the guy isn't wishy-washy when it comes to matters of the heart. and if you're interested, the reason why i'm typing like this is cos i'm currently reading this gorgeous draco/harry fic that has draco dripping sarcarsm like nobody's business. And i guess, perhaps it's rubbing off XD more later. it's 4 am and i think i'd better sleep. enjoy ^^ stardusted at 12:36 AM | link? 0 Call me number 1!© sephirot productions 2008 |
