gaiman and *squeeeeeee-ness*

in a totally deliriously happy mood today cos yesterday i saw gaiman!!! *grin* for the very first time. haha. somehow it was everything i expected and much more *lol* he wasn't as tall for one, and not as skinny as i'd imagined. *lol* the legendary leather jacket and sunglasses were definitely there though *lol* it was held at cineleisure, and it was quite amusing how a perfectly normal cinema complex with hardly any incidents suddenly had water pipes bursting, flooded floors and stalled lifts, all on the day he was due to come. *lol* perhaps crowley was having some fun, who knows. *grin*

met up with charissa and kenneth, and then what ensued was a small rush to join the growing throng outside the cinema O_o there were all sorts of people there - kids, young pple like us, and oldsters even. *lol* there was also a rather amusing family whereby dad, mom and junior were all mad fans. *lolol* thanks to charissa, we got good seats - 7th row from the front. ^__^ also met mitch, an old friend with whom i lost touch with for a few years. *lol*

and then gaiman stepped in. mini yay here. i was grinning so hard i think i looked like the cheshire cat. was initially embarrassing though, since there were many screw ups, what with the lady-in-charge, lena, forgetting to clarify the schedule for gaiman, and this irritating man called hanshin (hanshin who???????), gaiman's -minder- who kept butting in to boast about how he has all 75 issues of sandman, how he managed to get everythign signed, and how everyone should know that he is a Very Important Prat. =_= i was ready to slap him by the end of the thing. *mutter* gaiman was so confused about the schedule he picked up the mike, and after the hellos and welcomes, the next thing he said was 'lena, i'm really sorry, but what is it you would like me to do? you're the queen here, just tell me and i'll do it' O_o you kinda get this feeling that singapore has never ever had a big-name author come to town *lol*

and so, it became a talk-screening-faq-signing kind of thing. the talk was hilarious! he was saying how many singaporeans told him to ditch the leather jacket and the black boots, and how, when he was in the arctic temperatures of the complex, wading through flooded carpetry, he was thinking they'd all gotten it wrong after all. *lol* in person he's even funnier than his blog, and with this nice deep british accent. hearing him change his voice a few times to imitate alan moore and some irritating american lady, i now understand why people say gaiman's readings are one of the most enjoyable. during the faq, some cool nuggets of info also came out, like how the Death movie is definitely happening, and how Good Omens part II is definitely possible. Also how he might work with Vess on Tamlim (please please do) and how he might have another project with Amano (please please please please please do). *haha*

there was this funny bit on the Good Omens movie which never happened - him and pratchett attended this meeting where they wanted to discuss a possible movie adaptation for the book. earlier, they had both agreeed that if it started to sound really bad, they should have a keyword to signal that they should both leave the room immediately and never think about it again. that word was 'biggles' - supposedly the name of this famous flying champ. and so the lady at the meeting launched into this excited tirade on how tom cruise could be newton pulsifier, julia roberts could be anathema device...and how she has a crush on newton blah blah blah...O_o *lol* and gaiman said he looked at pratchett, and pratchett was doing this flying motion with his arms. *ROTFL* biggles indeed. hahahahahahaha.

later on, there was a screening of bits of mirrormask (gaiman said he tried to bring down the entire movie but couldn't. darn). before that, he explained the press conference kit, saying how they asked him many questions, but had to put on the one question where he was lying through his teeth about why dave mckean always has masques in many of his art pieces. *ROTFL* and so it screens, and you see gaiman going 'when dave was really young, around three years old or so, he was really scared of masques (i think it was masques), and it made him really really sick. so he had to be hospitalised. and i think he was telling me how the nurses had these really scary face thing *does some motion with hand*.' and later on there was a bit on how 'three-year-old dave, with his little beard' later got fascinated with masques or something like that. utter crap. and so damn funny *ROTFL*

yup. and then SIGNING. muahahahahaha. this was when you see all these hard core fans brandishing their first press copies of sandman (bloody jealous). so i brandished my, er, very nicely kept copy of dream hunters and stardust ^^;;; charissa was better. she had all 8 single issues of 1602 O_o kenneth was armed with american gods and good omens. *lol* it was really really really cool getting my books signed. he had like 6 different pens on the table that'd he choose from, and for each person he'd do a slightly different kind of autograph. for the person before me, gaiman dotted the eyes of morpheus in silver for dream hunters, while for mine he wrote 'dream!' in gold. *lol* the most gorgeous though, was for stardust. he used gorgeous brown fountain pen ink to draw this shooting star and sign on the first illustrated page....it suited the book perfectly!!! and looked so much a part of Vess' artwork that my sis was saying she couldn't tell it was autographed. *lol*

and so. the day ended. *GRIN* am goign back on wednesday to get Endless Nights and The Wake signed. *grin* replies and book/movie reviews later ^^
