so long and thanks for all the fish

so i watched Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy yesterday with jov. And it wasn't too bad! Bottom line is, if you've read the book, you'd either a) really love it, or b) kinda get bored by it. ^^;;; It's brillant in certain parts, but I can't say it's a perfect rendition of the book's humour in whole. If you're really nitpicky (or a very very VERY big fan of H2G2), well then, you might be a teeny bit disappointed by the slight overload of romance and the glaring absence of ridiculous funny scenes. Otherwise, if that doesn't really matter to you, then you'll probably enjoy most of it. I was just a bit irritated with the romance thing between Arthur and Trillian. It was very obviously added in to flesh out the script. That galled me slightly since more screen time could've been spent making it funnier. The romance tended to slow down the pace somewhat. And Arthur switching from confused/nervous/deranged to romantic mutt was a little...weird. *haha*

They didn't mention the funny bit about the evolution of the vogons and their reasons for crushing purple-jeweled crabs. They forgot to explain why you must always know where your towel is. They somehow added in lots of extra new things which were never in the book, presumably to give Arthur a chance to act heroic. And, i couldn't hear the vogon poetry. *lol* I was sorta looking forward to actually hearing how horrible it could get. *grin* And the doors and the ship computer would've been much funnier if they were more chirpy and irritating.

But nitpicking aside, the actors were really really good. Down to the littlest details. Arthur Dent was properly nervous, confused and stressed at the same time. Zaphod was very campy (i loved his black military costume ^^); and the Vogons were very ugly. *LOL* My favourite though, was Marvin the clinically depressed GPP (genuine people personalities) robot prototype. Voiced by Alan Rickman. It was just too funny, imagining Snape in a robot suit and speaking through a hollow tube while sounding very, very depressed. Of course, he wasn't really in a robot suit. That was someone else. He was just the voice. But still. *lol* Ve-ry depressing. And Ve-ry cute. *LOL*

So yes. I wouldn't say it's fantastic, but if you like this sorta campy thing, it's good to watch. Especially to see the dolphins sing/dance/swim an opera. That was the ultimate BEST thing. *grin* Just dammit play down the romance. Sigh... *haha*
