it's funny how homesickness kicks in at the most mundane moments - hearing your best friend saying hi, talking to your parents at 6am in the morning and agreeing to their every behest to keep warm, eat well and take care, discussing love and lost loves with a friend while walking home at 2am in the morning... it is only when you leave a place, that you realise what is really important to you.

the thing is, you don't feel it when you're busy and trying to make sense of the big puzzle that is university life. it is only when you're tired and lonely, sitting on your bed late at night with nothing to do, nothing to distract you, that you feel that vague sadness. and that is when you shake your head, sigh, and try to go immediately to sleep, so that the next morning, when you see the sun, all will be fine again.

the other night, i visited the planetarium. there were many stars in that little simulation of the night sky, pitch black, with sparkling diamonds scattered across the dark velvet. it was amazing how man could duplicate nature's beauty to such an accurate scale. looking at that sky made you realise just how small you are, and how beautiful the night would have been thousands of years ago, when one could still travel by moon and starlight, while listening to the secrets in the evening breeze. i saw magic that night, in the little room. and i hope i'll never forget it.

Baby cried the day the circus came to town
'cause she didn't want parades just passin' by her
So she painted on a smile and took up with some clown
While she danced without a net upon the wire
I know a lot about 'er 'cause, you see
Baby is an awful lot like me

Don't cry out loud
Just keep it inside, learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all

Baby saw that when they pulled that big top down
They left behind her dreams among the litter
The different kind of love she thought she'd found
There was nothin' left but sawdust and some glitter
But baby can't be broken 'cause you see
She had the finest teacher-that was me-I told 'er

Don't cry out loud
Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all

Don't cry out loud
Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall, remember you almost made it

Don't cry out loud
Just keep it inside and learn how to hide your feelings
Fly high and proud
And if you should fall, remember you almost had it all
