Monday, July 12, 2004velvet goldmine and spiderman (and a long rant warning)watched lots of stuff recently, first one being Spiderman 2. Fantastic movie! The best comic book adaptation ever. The score was fantastic and so was the acting! And the character development! Really really good stuff. Tobey Macguire did a fantastic job portraying peter parker as a very confused, nerdy person. And Doc Ock was another well-done character - I liked how he had to battle his inner turmoil, and how everything wasn't really his fault. My favourite kind of villain. XD James Franco was rather cute, in a way. *lol* And that scene where Peter Parker waltzes down the street to 'Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head' is hilarious!!! The second movie, was Velvet Goldmine. *cackles with glee* Finally got my hands on it!! Thank you sosososososososo much stejuste!!!!! *big glomps* I've waited gawd knows how many years to see the thing, which, i might add, was a Cannes Film Festival winnr. *grin* *haha* Starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Brian Slade aka. Maxwell Demon and Ewan Mcgregor as Curt Wild, the show is an amazing, mad caper into the world of Glam Rock in Britain. Brian Slade and his band Venus In Furs are the hottest glam rock act in London while Curt Wild fronts The Wylde Rattts, America's leading garage rock band. The story traces Slade's life, mysterious murder, and the real story behind the 'murder', as investigated by an ex-fan and current journalist, Arthur. Curt Wild plays his *koff*lover*koffkoff* ^^; At first glance, well, the movie strikes you as being really colourful, really wild. Every bit the wild 70s in Britain. You see all these people wearing glitter makeup and platforms, prancing around in all their glory. You see the great Brian Slade, idolised by these people, preening on stage, with such magnificent stage presence that you can't help but just look at the guy, no matter how much a dandy he looks. And then you hear him sing, and you go 'Gawd'. *lolol* Jonathan Rhys Meyers was fantastic! Posturing and preening and wailing out the lyrics in that beautiful voice of his. He was so very beautiful, just gorgeous, when he started performing. *sigh* He starts of wide-eyed, naive, innocent, and ends off jaded, tired of living the lie that is his rock-star persona. Just so awesome. And so ghei. His entire being, the entire persona, is so rainbow-coloured and technicolour and out-of-this-world and ghei. XD And then in comes Curt Wild, crazy rocker not unlike the frontman of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but way, waaaay crazier, campier and gayer than a maypole. *lol* Brian Slade sees him at a concert, and voila, there begins this weird little courting thing, and lots of erm, things that I shall not mention ^^;;; And you know what? Ewan Mcgregor may sing beautifully in Moulin Rouge, but he sounds very very different here. He screamed half the time ^^;;; And swore like a sailor. And acted like a drunk whore. And hardly ever wore a shirt O_o There is also Arthur, ultra big fan of Brian Slade, with questionable sexuality and a big big big crush on the rock star. He was crushed when Slade was murdered, and left home to stay out, eventually becoming a journalist. Throughout the movie, as you follow him in his investigations, you also get to see his pain, as he relived those memories. Interesting stuff. The guy, christian bale, looked real good without makeup, but turn him into a campy rock star, and man, he starts looking real bad. I mean, BLUE HAIR??? ^^;; Interesting though, how they achieved blue hair in those days *LOL* this guy was like spraying some sort of blue powder ^^; man, it must've been real bad *haha* All in all, the show was fantastic. The music was AWESOME!!! I never realised how much I missed glam rock until I saw the movie *haha* Spent the whole movie puzzling out the story though, as most of the dialogue was mumbled or slurred, and really hard to understand. I only discovered that there were subtitles after I finished the thing ^^;;; Was looking at the credits after, and realised that half of the Venus In Furs was actually Radiohead *hahahahaahha* Thom Yorke was the behind-the-scenes vocalist, and Jon Greenwood, Radiohead's guitar and synth extraordinaire was the guitarist. Coool. And there I was wondering why the voice sounded so familiar *haha* Jonathan sang some of the Venus In Furs songs, while Thom Yorke sang the others. Cool ^^ Placebo was featured too, (double cool!) and Iggy Pop wrote one of the songs! The movie was, however, very, ve-ry RA ^^;;;;;;;; otherwise, well, watch it with an open mind and you should love it. Fans of Glamrock especially would love it ^^ And the fanservice. Gawd. The fanservice was the best in the world!!! I have also discovered that Jonathan Rhys Meyers in long hair is GORGEOUS *sigh* Ve-ry gorgeous!!! ^^ Even prettier than Hyde, actually, since he has the height and the body and the pretty eyes to carry it off. *sighs somemore* In fact, he should have acted in Queen Of The Damned. He would have made a real good Lestat. *grin* And the little boy acting as Johnny Fairy was kinda cute too *lol* The best part was the performances. Some were gothic, others were campy. But all were oh-so-fun! And they all sorta put all that japanese visual rock to shame. Sorta. Fantastic. Go watch it if you can. ^^ Especially amusing is the underlying theory that rock stars come from the stars, and that Oscar Wilde was the first pop idol. *LOL* And now, screen caps from the dvd, done by yours truly *lol* your cigarette traces a ladder... persian eyes -- JRM looking gorgeous, my favourite picture ^^ Brian Slade in a frock ^^; maxwell demon -- the first mtv, and a campy fun one at that ^^ i came down like water love in the shadows kiss blue-haired gorgeousness pretty eyes stalking prey walking out the door death stardusted at 7:53 AM | link? 0 Call me number 1!© sephirot productions 2008 |
