Thursday, March 06, 2003and here's a reply to stejuste ^^ Some of it sounds rather abrupt, cos I was typing it in my PDA, and we all know how terrible it is to type rants, letter-by-letter on the PDA *lol*we are the elite!!! no one else can attain our heights of long-windedness!!! etc!!! O:^) All hail! *rotfl* yeah. it was one of the reasons why i came here - getting out of the rat race. you should have seen me before. there are still tension knots in my neck and shoulder area that haven't been unknotted yet :) but strictly speaking i was kind of laid back even before i left. i was always getting comments that i was the least (bleep)-like (bleep) they knew :) "bleep" being my self-censored former (extremely high stress) occupation *grin* oh no ^^ You're scaring me off work already *lol* Was it -that- bad? Ouch. I've heard stories, but yours tops the most terrifying list ^^ Well, at least that's all over and done with. You lucky thing ^^ I'd love to work abroad next time. Will be way more interesting ^^ i've adjusted too much. i may not be able to return to an efficient productive job if i leave here. californians have this thing, like hawaiians... i found it so slow and lazy and laid-back when i came here, but now i don't notice it anymore. no, actually, now i just extrapolate it to the entire country, not just california. heh :) but i've forgotten what it's like to work a really streamlined, efficient environment. sometimes i miss it, but most times i don't *grin* Lazy bum ^_^ But your lifestyle certainly sounds very appealing ^^ Sometimes one wonders what the rush is about ^^ how is your civil engineering job going? what *is* civil engineering?? for some reason it conjures up mental images of plumbing... *rotfl* Plumbing! Indeed! Actually, I think it has more to do with buildings and all that. Like using the right building structures, choosing materials etc. Closer to architecture, i guess, though there's probably plumbing somewhere XD Seriously, I don't really know either. Just some rough outline ^^ I only remember details from my last visit to the civil engineering faculty at the local university - there was some steel beam testing, and land surveyance. ^^; i still haven't read any of that. must get around to it sometime... :) I took a break and decided to read Remus Lupin/Sirius Black slash instead. Amazing how many good R/S fics there are out there! I've found an entire archive! *grin* I think this slash pairing is real sweet - i mean, a dog and a wolf! Aww... ^_^/ Somehow, good ara/leg fics are really hard to come by >.< I do have a rather long list of good S/R fics with me now. If anyone's interested, I'm more than happy to send them to you ^_______^/ yes, actually, the human beans were quite similar to the potato heads :) i do not in fact remember the cartoon they screened with my little pony :> i think i didn't watch my little pony much, but i'm not sure whether that was because it was too sweet and fluffy for me, or if it was because i'd grown past it by then. can't remember... *rotfl* I used to love my little pony and that cartoon about Rainbow Princess. Or was it Rainbow Dancer? The girl with the beautiful horse that had a rainbow as it's tail? ^^ I think i was only smitten with these two cartoons due to the ponies/horses *lol* Oh, oh, remember the Care Bears? The Gummy Bears? The Smurfs? *sigh* It's a pity those cartoons are not around anymore...they were classics ^^ I used to sit in front of the TV for hours waiting for the shows to come on *lol* I was a rather good couch potato when I was young ^^ it's true, though, isn't it? lines tend to get sharpened and darkened, and the lighter lines get lost, unless you make a very good copy... Yup ^^ *nod nod* The best way is to scan in the pic and make a good printout on your printer. But it's a total nono for lazy bums like us *rotfl* LOLOLOL! my god :) you know, maybe rap music won't even exist (in a current sense) anymore in ten or twenty years. maybe it will be some kind of weird atonal cyber music we "hear" from direct plugs into our brains :) ewww...no thanks. I'd much prefer the good old music ^^;;; Somehow, that sort of new-age thing scares me to bits ^^;; Gross. There's nothing like hearing all the different instruments coming together, layer over layer. It's marvelous how the different parts all come together into one big whole ^^ Fascinating ^^ i didn't pay much attention to the lyrics. i think mostly his voice was too high and melodies did not appeal. however it was only two songs so i'm not really concluding anything yet. will have to download more and listen some more first :) coldplay i liked because they had a slightly similar sound to matchbox twenty (a little grittier and rougher, a little lower down in the scale?) i missed their performance. actually, i missed the grammys. heh :) i will try follow the light, and i'll download a few more coldplay songs as well to check out :) *lol* Is true, his voice is rather high ^^ Hmm. In that case, you may want to try Supergrass. The voice is lower, and their music is rather fun ^^ It sounds like some cheeky 80s rock. Very cute, very fun, and enjoyable to listen ^^ I'm very sure you'll love them. Mansun's I Will Not Disappoint You is also very good. Nice, low sexy voice. *sigh* i've got too used to ordering off the net in this country *grin* but i picked this one up from circuit city. i don't remember how many there were on the shelf, it may have been the only one or there may have been more. but it does seem popular here too - it got very good reviews from purchasers, which was one of the reasons why i chose it over the other one that was $50 cheaper :} Yup, that drive got very good reviews here for being a reliable speed demon. I would have bought it, if i didn't already have one ^^ I really liked it cos it was nice and blue *grin*but come to think of it, you don't really need the speed. I usually write my cds at 4x anyway cos my stupid stereo can't read cds written at a faster speed. *mutter*I really hope my dad will get a new system soon... your yamaha does sound good. this tdk has a 2 mb buffer but it seems sufficient so far. at least, it hasn't choked on anything yet despite the slow laptop and the slow usb1.1 connection :) it is surprisingly quiet compared to my old HP. dell has a good rep here in the US for support and service. i never had much occasion to use their support and service, so i couldn't say. i think they charge too much based on their rep *grin* their computers always seem to be more expensive and bigger and heavier than everyone else's :) some years back maybe their reputation was deserved, but i don't think that's the case anymore. right now my affection lies with ABS PCs. given the speed at which the industry changes, however, i don't expect to be faithful to them for long *grin* I agree about the design of dell coms- they look real bulky! The laptops especially >.< But I think of all the brands, the new HP desktops look the worst. They've got these ugly grey extensions popping out all over the place! Ewwww. Never heard of ABS though. I guess that's a US only brand? ^^ You might want to check out the new Yamaha drive though, it has both the 8mb buffer and the Burnproof technology. I'm going to get it as soon as I get some cash *grin* LOLOLOL! she wanted a tangerine ibook and they weren't in stock so she made do with a blueberry, which i personally preferred anyway. in the end she decided it was a good choice and ended up liking that color more than the tangerine :) i agree about the platform. i used Macs a lot when i was in school, but since then there's been no opportunity to play with them much so i've grown out of the habit. and i find a one-button mouse very troubling, somehow :) Actually, the one I really love is the new ibook, the snow white one. *gushes* It's soooo cool! And so sleek! *sigh* I too find the difference in mouse buttons rather wierd. I tend to get really insecure when I use macs. ^^;;; Still, I think the new OSX is beautiful! I fell in love with the aqua interface the moment I saw it ^^ The new windows OX however, leaves much to be desired. >.< I hate the ugly blocks! Appalling design. Tsk. yes there is such a model i think, it's just that i was looking for a specific screen size. i wanted something that had a 10 inch screen. my other option would have been a handheld pc, one of those HPs or NECs, the long rectangles with the clamshells and keyboards. but if you're going to fork out $1000 for that, then you might as well add a few hundred and get a 'full' computer, and so... :) unfortunately the P2120, which is the one i have my eye on, will cost roughly the same as a full desktop if i add all the extras i want into it :} *lol* that's the problem with notebooks - they are always short of something *grin*I guess you'll just have to sacrifice a little ^^ But I'm quite sure that there is a lifebook with the specs you want AND a 10 inch screen ^^ Btw, my dad just showed me an ad for apple's new ibook. It's selling for $1788 SGD, with the air port, usb and firewire, and a DVD/CD-RW combo drive!!! Damn, I want it!!! i am planning on keeping an eye out for good deals while i'm there. pricing seems to vary, some things are cheaper over there but for the most part i get the impression that it's cheaper here, i don't know why. even with currency conversion *grin* apart from that, so far, from what i can tell, the P2000 is offered with more options in the US than in Sg. i don't know why that is. but i'd rather pay more for better customization than less for less *grin* *lol* is true that you can always find the latest in US first. I think there's going to be quite a few tech fairs this year, you might be able to catch one. ^^ Besides, the comps here are not that obsolete *grin* true. but what's the point of having it on if you're just going to be invisible and do nothing with it? LOL! :) i usually turn it on only if i have a specific "appointment" already planned, like that day when we met to transfer files. same for irc - i don't go to the channel unless there is a book i want to pick up. or, unless i have an "appointment" to introduce some people to the joys of free bookz *grin* *lol* well, I usually use the invisible function so that I can speak to only a few people instead of everyone online at that time. If I did that, then I'll never get anything done ^^;; *lol* I wonder how many people you've initiated into ebooks *grin* LOLOLOL! you know, it's pretty amazing how quickly things change. it's a little frightening that i can remember a time when there was no spam and no ads on the net, and only a few "homepages", mostly created by nerds in basic html with no pics *grin* a time when the phrases used were pre-AOHell - netsex, smileys, not cybersex, or emoticons. Or a time when a bad netsplit/lag day due to 'overpopulation' on irc meant you had all of 4000 people online at once :) such things should take generations to change, but instead they're increasing exponentially, in years, then months, then weeks, then hours... sigh :) You sound almost nolstalgic!!!! *lol*Seriously though, I'm rather glad that the internet has evolved to the stage it is now. Imagine homepages without graphics! That would be rather nightmarish for me. ^^;;; I think it's great that our generation is part of such rapid changes. Keeps things interesting *grin* now the icky aspect has flooded everything - you get flooded with spam and sexual come-ons no matter where you go - icq, irc, email... yesterday i had ten offers from various people to help me to enlarge my penis. (!!! maybe someday they'll start advertising free penises for those who don't have 'em :} !!!). and then there are the cheap viagra knockoffs, the "bored housewives", the "genuine katmandu joints", the "free mortgage refinances", the "underground club invitations"... :) *rotfl* guess what? I've been getting the exact same penis messages *gags* I was shocked the first time I saw all those. Then I burst out laughing. It was just so ridiculously funny *rotfl* Luckily, yahoomail has a pretty effective spam mail filter, so I don't need to read them unless I want to *grin* what happened to you, i guess, was the cyber-age equivalent of an old-fashioned flasher. *chuckle* :) you know, we had a flasher once back in JC. he showed up in this weird corner near the edge of the running track. nothing under his coat. it was the funniest thing. instead of running away screaming all the girls in the area converged on the spot out of curiosity. then we stared, pointed, and started shrieking and laughing at him, all at the same time. it got a bit too much for him very quickly and he ran away. *giggle* there are some things to be said for the march of progress :> *lol* there's also a resident flasher at my jc!!! I didn't see him, but my friend who did did pretty much the same thing as you. She laughed her head off, and the humiliated flasher ran away. *rotfl* That has to be the best way to get rid of a flasher *rotfl* Some years back, it seemed there was a boy who got molested by a middle-aged woman on the bus *rotfl* Apparently he was so terrified that he just froze until someone realised and called for help *rotfl* The poor boy!! XD *rotfl* Loved abba! At the very least they could sing ^__^ now i feel like buying a cd... hehe :) My mum just went on a buying spree and bought Reprise by Russell Watson. He's this tenor cum pop singer, and has a rather nice voice. I rather like his rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody and Bridge Over Troubled Water. She also got her Simon & Garfunkel cd. A pity they're not together anymore... I think they've very good harmony ^^ i just like the sound of harpsichords :) if you like depressing you should like vocalise even though it isn't string *grin* Mou, so the title is Vocalise? Or is that the style of music? *sheepish grin* I love harpischords too!!! Especially if the song is one of those really fast and mad sounding ones. Nice and gothic. ^^ I actually started liking them after listening to malice mizer. They had some really good harpischord-sounding pieces *grin* Have you heard them before? (the instrumental track called "Pain" from the Bronze soundtrack is a little like that... very pretty. Also "Aigenya" from the Bronze soundtrack, which has vocals but is very slow and angsty and soft, very beautiful. *lol* so you've not heard the lyric versioa of Story? It's also very nice, worth a listen. ^^ Wow, the bronze soundtrack is beginnning to sound more and more interesting! Will definitely try the songs soon ^^ Incidentally, do you know Streamload changed their policy AGAIN? ARGH!!! The bloody idiots made it such that all freeloaders now cannot streambeam. And we're only allowed 25 downloads or 100mb! And there's a time limit of one month!!! $#@^&*%@#$#!! Us hates them. Us kills them!!! *evil cackle* have you heard of dean evenson? i have one of his cds, called ocean song or something like that. very nice new agey flute and sea sounds, including whale sounds. secret garden is pretty too, also clannad... Hmmm, I do believe I've heard the title Secret garden before, though I've never heard the song. So he's good? Ok, will go and check it out ^^ you know what though... i *have* seen ads for black roses made of leather. gothic gifts and all, y'know :> the pix looked nice but i don't know what they would be like up close. Aiyah, I'm talking about real, specially bred, living and breathing roses!! Not leather ones ^^;;; actually that's even more impressive. it's very hard to draw with a mouse, IMHO at least. i can't draw straight line unless i have a ruler, and even then... :) there isn't a bad lag if you're doing direct-to-pc work, the lag is only obviously bad if you're doing tablet-to-net-to-oekaki board drawing, because it depends on the receiving server and the connection etc. for tablet-direct-to-pc, it's only slow if your RAM and processor aren't up to it. otherwise it should be instantaneous. or unless you're doing something revoltingly complex *grin* Hm, perhaps my tablet software isn't very good, or perhaps I'm just substandard. Tablet drawings never turn out satisfactory. I've heard that Corel Painter is better for drawing though, so I may try that instead. And my tablet keeps hanging ^^;;; i have four words : daisy chain usb hubs *grin* Naw, it's a little troublesome. ^^ I once tried daisy-chaining my parallel ports, and this big mess-up occured, so I'm not gonna try anything like that in the near future ^^;;;;; this poor laptop only has 1 usb port (!!!!!) but i have two hubs chained up to it. and still not enough space for my peripherals. sigh. see why i want the pc with 8 ports? *grin* *rotfl* one port? How did you survive? I've got four, and even then, I'm short. You've got my utmost respect. XD stardusted at 10:10 AM | link? 0 Call me number 1!© sephirot productions 2008 |
