Thanx to all the birthday wishes *grin* Really made my day! I remember stejuste mentioning something about binge personalities - realised i'm just as bad *grin* Have been sitting in front of my com downloading photoshop brushes for 5+ hours *lol* And yesterday, I did the same, only I was downloading artwork *sheepish grin* And now, the Death survey. *grin*

death survey

1. What feelings do you have about death in general (not specific to you)?

It means a definitive end, a form of release or absolute horror depending on the person. I currently see it as a form of release, though this might change. There's no bargaining, no escape. It slowly eats away at the life around you, until you are the last one left. Then it takes you.

2. What theories do you have about death and/or the afterlife?

Having read tons of mythology since I was young, I believe rather strongly in the afterlife. Certain things have happened to me which leads me to believe that the afterlife indeed exists. I think our souls do go to someplace after death, to await reincarnation.

3. Do you personify death? If so, how do you imagine it/him/her?

Yup, mainly influenced by Sandman. Death is a funky, down-to-earth girl, whose favourite colour is black. *grin* Ai, she's basically just Death in Sandman. *lol*

4. Have you ever seen a dead person?

Yes.

5. If so, describe the encounter(s) and your feelings/reactions.

Hm, the only two I've seen are my grandfathers. My paternal grandpa died when I was really young, so not much there. When my maternal grandpa died, however, I was much older. It was a shock to see his face then, since the last i saw him two years ago, he was so much fatter, with two sparkling eyes. It actully only hit me then that he was truly and irrevocably gone. I started crying about then, i guess

6. If not, would you be curious about seeing one, or would you rather not ever have to see a dead person?

i'd rather not have to see one. It really affects me when I see a body with no soul in it. I think it's very sad.

7. Also if not, what do you think your reactions might be if you did see one?

I think if it was my mom, dad, sis or best friend, i would be a wreck. But let's not go into that, shall we?

8. What do you think about murder?

the usual - it's wrong, and one does not have the right to end another's life without the person's consent.

9. Do you think you are capable of killing :
(a) an insect - YES. Ugh. I hate them. Except butterflies, moths and ladybirds. Too pretty to be killed ^^;;; I'll kill ants, but if it's anything larger, someone else will have to do it for me *sweatdrop*
(b) a plant - no. No point really. They don't harm me, i don't touch them.
(c) a bird - nope. I like birds, though I can get mighty irritated by crows ^^;
(d) an animal - No. I love animals, will never, ever kill them.
(e) an adult human female - um, no. Metaphorically, yes *grin*
(f) an adult human male - same as above.
(g) a baby boy - same, esp when they start to make tons of noise
(h) a baby girl? - same as above

10. Why yes or no, for each?

explained above ^^

11. What feelings do you have about the deaths of people you know, but who are not close to you? (eg. acquaintances, distant colleagues or schoolmates)

Actually, i'll be rather unemotional. I only get really affected if I knew those people very well. Otherwise, like stejuste says, life as usual ^^

12. What feelings do you have about the deaths of people you are close to? (family members, loved ones)

Hm, i think i mentioned this earlier - I'll be a wreck.

13. What feelings do you have about the deaths of your pets?

when all my goldfish died, I basically just threw them away and promised to myself never to look after a pet again ^^;;;;

14. If you were asked to explain death to a child (say, under 10 years of age), what would you say?

*points to picture of death in random sandman comic* Well, Death took him/her away to this really nice place. But since it's so far away, he/she won't be coming back. But he/she'll always be able to see you. See, she's smiling, so the place can't be all that bad, can it? ^^;;; I can't bear to say it in any other way.

15. If you were to die in a "bad" way (eg. murdered, and you were an innocent victim), do you think of yourself as the sort of person who might return as a ghost to do something about it, or would you prefer to go on to the afterlife? Or something else altogether?

I'd just go to the afterlife. It's ended, and there's no point making more people unhappy and stuff ^^

16. If you returned, what would you do? If you didn't return, what do you think you would go on to do or be?

I think i'd go on to enjoy paradise for a bit *lol*

17. If there was a secret to immortality that only you had access to, what would you do about it? Keep it to yourself? Destroy it? Tell the world about it? Make money off it? What? And why?

Hm. I'd actually destroy it. Death exists for a purpose, one that works rather well. So there's really no point in destroying nature's processes. It might eventually backfire on us anyway.

18. Do you think death is necessary? Or deserved? Or that it just is? Or...? Why?

Like i mentioned above, yes. I mean, there's the population control for one, and it provides a release for one who wants to escape from this world and all it's drudgeries.

"-Why do we hurt? Why do we die? Why isn't life good all the time? Why isn't it fair?
-Well. I think some of it is probably contrasts. Light and shadow. If you never had the bad times, how would you know the good times?"

--Death and Hazel in Death: The Time Of Your Life.

Another reason why death is necessary *grin*

19. What do you think/feel when you hear about stories in which kids kill other kids? Do you think they don't know what they're doing?

I feel rather sorry for these kids, that our moral values have deteriorated to the point where even kids are affected. I think some actually know what they've done, only they probably think what they've done is justified. Which makes it all the worse

20. Would you want to know when/how you were supposed to die?

No. Seriously, no. I'd live in terror for the rest of my life >.<

21. If you knew when and how you were supposed to die, would you try to avoid it or would you live with the knowledge? What would you do about having loved ones in your life? Would you avoid having love relationships? Would you tell the person you were in a relationship with what to expect?

It all depends. If it was horrible, obviously i'll try and avoid it. *grin* If it isn't, then I guess I'll be content with knowing. I'll probably not tell my loved ones, until the time is near, to sorta prepare them. There's no point worrying them unduly. I won't avoid relationships, that'd be stupid, since the whole point of knowing you're going to die is to try and live properly before you do. Hm, and I'll only tell the right person about it *grin* Wow. Lots of questions.

22. How would you live with the knowledge
(a) when you still had some decades to go
(b) when you had a year to go
(c) when you had a week to go
(d) on your last day of life?
What would you be doing/thinking/feeling

a) the usual way I do - forget it in a jiffy and enjoy life as usual *grin* Having air as your element does have its advantages ^^
b) I'll start my preparations, eg writing wills, visitng alaska, swimming with the whales, running in the canadian wilderness with the wolves etc. *grin* Oh, and trekking round europe. I'd probably feel some sense of urgency to do all the things i've always wanted to do
c) I'll start telling people, talking to them and stuff, so I won't miss them.
d) I'd play my favourite song and go to sleep. ^^;;;;;;;;;; Of course this is assuming that the death in store is a rather mild one ^^;;
