Thursday, December 26, 2002++LOTR++Ive learned my lesson! :) i re-read all three before movie 1, but this time i am not going to re-read book 2 before i see movie 2. then Ill be able to enjoy properly. (except for when Im bemoaning how eowyn isn't at all pretty, when she's supposed to be the human equivalent of elven gorgeousness, grrr) awww, comeon, Eowyn -is- pretty! She just needs a little getting used to. ^^ I do agree that I thought she looked a little too old for the part of a young maiden, but after staring at those LOTR trailers for so long, you start to realise that, hey, she's not that bad after all! At least she has the poise correct, and she does look flattering in that white dress. *grin* Actually, I happen to think she's prettier than Arwen. ^^;;; I think Liv Tyler is pretty, but not pretty enough. She looks human, while the actress acting Eowyn looks ethereal. I'd expected Arwen to look better than that. ^^;;; hey, by elvish robes did you mean the bit in rivendell? he seemed to be in this shapeless grey poncho blanket thing in rivendell. which i found quite ugly. you can't mean that one, right???! :) *aghast* whaddya mean 'shapeless grey poncho blanket thing'??!!! It was a rather fitting (not to mention flattering) grey-white robe!!! Hey he looked good okay?!!! *goes into defensive fangirl stance* *rotfl* Okok, maybe I'm exxagerating, but I don't think it was shapeless, and I don't remember it looking like a poncho. Are we thinking the same thing? I'm talking about the one he wore when he was mourning for Gandalf in Lothlorien. Hmm. On second thought, I think I know what you mean, you're talking about what he wore at the council meeting, yes? *sheepish grin* I actually didn't really notice - I was busy looking at the elves next to Legolas - there was this one nameless elf which was, really, quite cute *lol* ++lackey++ no problem :) if i don't have time Ill tell you, but it's not hard to upload a couple of zips, and it doesn't take much time either. i mentioned it because i happen to have them all in one place at the moment so it will be a snap to do it if you want them now. also i picked up a few new lackey scans recently, of books which i have in my hoard back home but couldn't keep with me here, so i was very happy. It's the diana tregarde trilogy. (although i think they only have 2 of the 3 so far) if you haven't heard of it, i would recommend you check it out. Lackey didn't like them for some reason so she won't write anymore Tregarde stories, but i think they're among her best efforts. fantasy and magic. heroine is a good pagan witch who happens to also have a day job as a romance fluff writer - and her boyfriend is a vampire! *laugh* :) *lol* Yes, I remember the Tregarde series. It was great, considering her current efforts. ^^;;; I think I managed to find two books out of three too ^^ I liked the part about the heroine being a romance fluff writer *rotfl* so damn ironic *grin* firesong appears in several of the books, maybe you haven't seen those yet? i think she's probably shone as much of the spotlight on him as she wants to by now. she wrote about the tayledras in all the gryphon books and the mage winds books etc (which is also where firesong pops up). you might want to check those out, they are not bad. they were done when she was still interesting *grin* *grin* I have seen them. That was just my irrational fangirl mind taking over *lol* I love firesong! And I love Silverfox! *rotfl* Those two are so sweet together! But I thought Lackey started to sound a bit strained towards the end of the Storms series. It sounded like she was running out of things to say. Then again, Vanyel reappeared, so I'm not complaining. *lol* I think lackey should write somemore shaych stories - she seems to write them particularly well. ^____^/ I for one would like to read a story on Starwind and Moondance, like what happened when they first met, how they came together (besides that tragic tallo story) etc. ^^ She never really addressed it much. Did you start off with the Gryphon books? That was the first series I tried, and I loved it. *lol* I loved that black gryphon - what's his name again? I thought that was the funniest she'd ever written! Btw, have you read the Owls series? Don't read it. It's rather boring. the only thing that kept me interested was the appearance of Firesong and Silverfox (yay, they're together!), and the emphasis on Tayledras llife. Otherwise, the story was pretty much the same as everything else. *lol* you are correct, i feel she's turning into a hack with the valdemar series. she needs to start doing new stories on other aspects. on the plus side, she's started a new thing - elemental masters. i was dubious and avoided them at first, because they are basically re-workings of classic fairytales. then i read one and got hooked. they actually turned out to be pretty darn good, and bear only passing resemblance to the tales they're based on! (first book is Fire Rose, i forget what the others are - i have them in my little bundle too. tempted yet? :) *lol* I loved Fire Rose! I really loved the story! Just re-read it again after a long long time. *lol* There was a time when I'd go to the library and take all the Lackey books home to read *lol* I thought her idea on elementals was quite refreshing, after all those things on node-magic and stuff. ^^ Firebird was good too! About the best retelling of that particular story that I've ever seen. I love Russian fairytales, and I think she did a good job on that one. ^^ If you're interested, read the other books in the Valdemar series. I remember the Oaths series and By The Sword was rather good. One of them gave an insight on the Shin'a'in, which you might be interested in. Speaking of which, have you found this title by Lackey? Can't seem to get my hands on it: Phoenix and Ashes Prolly banned or something, I reckon *lol* stardusted at 6:22 AM | link? 0 Call me number 1!© sephirot productions 2008 |
